Otterbourg firm member, and former Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of New York, Melanie Cyganowski, has been appointed as a member of an advisory committee for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.  The Southern District Attorney Advisory Committee is a pilot project chaired by Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, with the approval of Chief Judge Loretta Preska.

The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to focus on the judicial pretrial case management of complex civil cases and to identify aspects of such management to be enhanced or modified.  The topics to be addressed range from pleading requirements to e-discovery as well as other issues that affect the time and expense of litigation in the Federal courts in New York.  Its goal is to establish proposed rules and methods to be used by Federal judges in the Southern District of New York in the administration of large cases.
